Read large numbers in groups of hundreds. The grouping order in English is as follows from most to least:

trillion
billion
million
thousand
hundred
tens

In British English, include 'and' between the hundred and the tens. In American English, do not use 'and' between the hundred and tens. Notice that hundred, thousand, etc. is NOT followed by an 's'.

Two hundred NOT two hundreds

Example:

423 - four hundred twenty three

234 - two hundred thirty four

British English

Example:

729 - seven hundred and twenty nine

632 - six hundred and thirty two

Thousands

The remaining examples use American English.

Example:

41,365 - forty one thousand three hundred sixty five"

75,632 - seventy five thousand six hundred thirty two"

Millions

234,700,000 - two hundred AND thirty-four million seven hundred thousand

American English

Example:

500,184,295 - five hundred million one hundred eighty four thousand two hundred ninety five"

900,382,741- nine hundred million three hundred eighty two thousand seven hundred forty one"

Speaking About Numbers

Numbers are read in the following order in English

trillion, billion, million, thousand, hundred

Example:

2,350,400 => two million three hundred and fifty thousand four hundred
